FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

K2CAD IRLP Node 4572

December 22,2003 -- K2CAD has gone internet. I have added an IRLP node to the shack. When I first saw IRLP demonstrated by Marcus WA2DCI at a Radio Central meeting, I was impressed by the capabilities to expand the VHF and UHF range through the use of the internet. Unlike Echolink which allows computer only users to QSO with each other, IRLP Requires that there is a radio at both ends.  Currently the node is running simplex on 145.640. It is running on an old HP Pavilion Pentium computer. It is IRLP node #4572.

For those of you that have legality concerns about running automatic control on VHF, I have explored the topic extensively. In my interpretation of the rules (this will apply until the FCC tells me otherwise) it is legal as long as I have another means of control. Currently I have the capability to control it both from an internet connection and a telephone DTMF connections. This gives me three layers of control and makes the station simply remote controlled rather than automatic control.
