FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
K2CAD Goes QRO
September 1,2003 -- The frustration of trying to
get through pile ups has finally gotten to me. While I have seen in the past
that I can work anywhere in the world with only a few watts, As soon as
there is a pile up I have trouble. Improving the antenna system would be the
best thing, but that is not an option at this time. So the next best thing
is to raise the output power. To do this I have acquired a non functional
Ameritron AL-811. This amp is based on a classic grounded grid design
and uses inexpensive 811 tubes. It was a fairly simple matter to restore
this amp to operational status. This amp will output 600 Watts PEP or 500
Watts CW. The addition of a
Vectronics HFT-1500 high power tuner makes the station complete.
